Teaching is a calling…a natural, intuitive talent I’ve been blessed with. Even when I’m playing, I’m teaching. As a little girl playing with my sisters, when it was my turn to choose the game we would play, I always chose to “play school,” and I was the “teacher.” As a teenager, when my friends all had “babysitting” businesses, I had a “tutoring” business. I taught kids in younger grades in reading and math, and I gave music lessons to beginning musicians. As a mother, when my sons were young, we “played” together by reading books, writing letters, words, sentences, drawing pictures, discussing colors and shapes; and we counted the number of blocks we used when building Lego castles. I taught them while they played, and this came naturally to us. Even now, on my “off time,” when I am with my personal friends and their kids, I interact with them by ‘play-teaching’. Teaching comes naturally to me, and it is something I have done all my life. It is a part of me that is seen in all aspects of my life, both personally and professionally. I am a natural-born teacher.
